2 Days Mount Karisimbi Hike

This tour will take you to the 11th highest mountain in Africa lying along the Rwanda – Democratic Republic of Congo boarder. It is inactive volcano towering to a height of 4,507m above sea level lying within the impressive Virunga massif. Karisimbi is a Kinyarwanda word meaning snow, signifying the all year ice covered summit of this tall mountain.

Detailed itinerary.

Day 1: Departure Kigali to Volcanoes NP and hike Karisimbi mountain.

You will transfer to volcanoes national park immediately after breakfast, and upon your arrival, you will start a hike after a short briefing. The hike goes through various kinds of vegetation, beginning with bamboo plantations located on the lower slopes of mount Karisimbi while on the higher slopes, hikers find the hagania-hypericum forests and giant lobelia respectively. But most importantly beautiful scenery of other Virunga mountains makes the entire hike truly memorable.

The first overnight stay will be at a height of 3,700m in the mountain huts, close to the summit. Relax and refresh from here, take your packed dinner or an onsite cook will prepare one and later slumber on the slopes of Karisimbi.

Day 2: Hike to the summit, descend and transfer back to Kigali.

Proceed to the summit (4,507m) after your breakfast with the porters and park rangers and be rewarded with a great view with a crater on the higher slopes of the volcano. Later after taking memorable photos, descend to the starting point to meet your driver / guide who will transfer you back to Kigali city/ international airport. And this will mark the end of this adventure tour.
