TRIP DETAILS.
Day 1: Travel to Nyungwe Forest national park
After a heavy and delicious breakfast at the lodge where you slept, our experienced driver guide picks you and transfers you to Nyungwe forest national park. Drive through Kigali city at your convenience, having brief stopovers at places of interest for pictures. The guide briefs you about the whole trip as he transfers you to the park. Have a brief stop at the national museum, and drive straight to the park.
Note that lunch will be enroute. Arrival at the lodge will be in the evening to just check in, have dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and a forest / canopy walk.
Waking up will be very early in the morning for breakfast and head to the park station for a simple briefing about chimp tracking. The local park ranger will take you through the dos and don’ts of chimp tracking and them hit the forest to hint the primates.
Chimp tracking in Nyungwe forest national park involves walking through the thick tropical forest, in paths covered with dry leaves, avoiding thorny trees and at times over jumping dung of forest elephants and buffaloes. Trekkers spend one magical hour in the presence of these beautiful primates.
Chimp tracking becomes more fun when you have to follow the chimps, sometimes running after them as they quickly jump from one tree branch to the other. You are allowed to take as many pictures as you want provided the camera has no flash. You will spend one hour with the chimps and them slope back to the park headquarters.
In the afternoon, have a simple forest walk for bird watching if you are a bird lover. The walk also takes you so close to even the slightest insights of nature. It will be worth the afternoon.
Alternatively, you can undertake a canopy walk to view Nyungwe forest at an angle of 360” degrees and admire its amazing inhabitants including birds, butterflies and verdant trees.
Day 3: Departure.
On the last day, have breakfast, check out of the lodge and drive back to Kigali. You will still drive at your convenience, stopping at places of interest like Nyanza ethnographic museum and Butare cultural center for pictures, lunch will be enroute and continue to enjoy the country’s amazing landscape until you arrive in Kigali for overnight stay or departure flight.
