3 Days Akagera National Park Helicopter Safari

This 3 days flying safari to Akagera National Park offers a spectacular aerial view of the breathtaking rolling hills and lush plantations. Save your journey time by flying to experience more in one of the oldest national parks in Rwanda. Akagera National Park is located in the eastern part of the country, at the border with Tanzania. The park features savannah grassland, swamps, low mountains, and woodland cover. It was gazetted in 1934 and spans approximately 1,200 square kilometers. You will engage in a game drive, a boat cruise at Lake Ihema, and a guided nature walk. Lions, buffaloes, elephants, shoebill stock, leopards, and several other park residents are to look out for. It is a fly-in safari, starting and ending at Kigali International Airport.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Fly to Akagera National Park and boat cruise

Today, our company representative will meet and brief you on how the trip will go. This includes answering some questions and explaining some dos and don’ts in Rwanda. You will have a city tour around Kigali, visiting the Genocide memorial, the Convention Centre, and some shopping around Kigali city.

At the flight time, you will get on board to Mugashi camp at Akagera National Park, with the breathtaking aerial view of the landscape and plantations. Upon landing at the park, our representative will welcome you and transfer you to the lodge for freshening up and lunch. The evening will be for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema. There, you get a chance to watch the hippos, crocodiles, and several birds. Dinner and a nap bring this day to an end.

Day 2: Full-day game drive

This entire day is dedicated to identifying the flora and fauna at the vast Akagera National Park. It begins with breakfast at the lodge, and thereafter you will join your ranger guide to the wilderness to identify the different animals, birds, plants, and the breathtaking landscape. There will be a picnic lunch at a designated point. Look out for the early risers, and night hunters, notably the hippos, leopards, buffaloes, rhinos, zebras, lions, hyenas, and different antelope species. As the sun sets, you will retire to your lodge for dinner and a nap.

Day 3: Behind-the-scenes experience tours and travel to Kigali

As the sun rises, greet your intestines with a hefty breakfast meal. Afterward, meet the ranger guides who will brief and explain to you the different conservation efforts at the park. Join the team in learning animals’ behaviors, conservation practices, and feeding.

You will also meet dog trainers and dogs used to track the poachers around the park. It is all lively until the time of returning to the lodge for lunch, checkout, and drive back to Kigali marking the end of your trip.
