Tour Overview

7 days Rwanda helicopter safari is an amazing safari that is taking you to Rwanda’s national parks. You expect to visit Akagera National Park which is home to Africa’s big which are; lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes and rhinos, visit Nyungwe Forest National Park where you will be tracking chimpanzees, you will as well engage in a canopy walk which is a breathtaking activity and it is only donned in Nyungwe.

This safari will take you to Volcanoes National Park home to mountain gorillas and golden money trekking and you will have an aerial view of the animals and the forests. You will also visit the gorilla guardian village. This safari is going to be hassle-free.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to the hotel

Upon arrival, our driver guide will pick you up from the airport, greet you, and take you through the itinerary and then do a city tour. You will start with the Genocide Memorial Centre where you will be listening to stories that gave birth to the 1994 massacre, you will also visit different artisans, visit local markets and then return to the hotel where you will spend overnight.

Day 2: Fly to Nyungwe and canopy walk

Arise in the morning, enjoy a scrumptious breakfast, and meet your driver guide who will transfer you to the airport where you will have to board a flight to Nyungwe National Park. You will have a magical view of Rwanda the land of a thousand hills and the national, arrive in the park, check in the lodge, and then in the afternoon, you will go for a canopy walk where you will be rubbing shoulders with monkeys, birds, and you will enjoy magical views as you are in the skies. You will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking and fly to Volcanoes National Park

Arise in the morning, enjoy a mouthwatering breakfast, meet your driver guide and be transferred to the park information centre to be guided about chimpanzee trekking, you will be allocated a chimpanzee family to track, then head to the forest with a ranger guide who is knowledgeable about the chimpanzee movements.

Spend an hour with them, return to the lodge for refreshing and board a flight to Volcanoes National Park a home of mountain gorillas. You will arrive in the evening, check in the lodge, have dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking and Gorilla Guardian’s Village

Arise in the morning, have a delicious breakfast and be transferred to the park headquarters for a briefing about the gorilla trekking experience. You will be assigned a gorilla family to trek, then get lost in the wilderness to search for gorillas.

While you are searching for gorillas, you will be spotting birds, then meet gorillas, spend an hour with them then in the evening, return to the lodge to freshen up, and in the evening you will visit gorilla guardian’s village where Rwandan culture is exhibited, they will entertain you through dances, ancient stories, they also have craft shops where you can buy souvenirs, in the evening you will retire to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Fly to Akagera National Park

Arise in the morning for a scrumptious breakfast, check out at your time of convenience and fly to the northeastern part of the country. You will arrive in the park in the afternoon hours, check in the lodge, enjoy a hot lunch and spend the whole day relaxing at the lodge in Akagera.

Day 6: Game drive and boat cruise

You will wake up in the morning, have a delicious breakfast and head to the park to search for animals. You will be amazed to encounter herds of buffaloes, elephants, rhinos, lions and leopards and these are Africa’s big 5.

You will see other animals like zebras, giraffes, Impalas, and birds, among others animals, you will return to the lodge, have lunch and then in the afternoon you will go for a launch cruise on Lake Ihema to enjoy a gentle cruise through schools of hippos, crocodiles, so many birds will be seen on the lake banks, you take pictures, and at the dusk, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Fly back to Kigali

After a scrumptious breakfast at a time of convenience, you will check out of the lodge and be transferred to the airstrip to board a flight back to Kigali. Arrive in Kigali, have lunch en-route and proceed to the Airport for a flight back home or to other destinations and this will mark the end of 7 days Rwanda helicopter safari.

We went on a two-week trip with my family, organised by Coleb from Standard Safaris.I had my concerns about organised trips, but this one didn’t justify any of those. Everything went very smoothly, even when some problems arose with one of the cars it got fixed by next morning, the accomodations were clean and comfortable, the programs were exciting and well-balanced - everything was done to a truly high standard.If you plan to visit Uganda and are looking for a guide, I warmly recommend Coleb and his team. In case you have a choice of drivers, go for Godwin, his presence made this trip even more enjoyable - cheerful, helpful, good sense of humour, generally a great person. Just look for the guy with a big smile and big heart:)

We are all extremely grateful Standard Safaris for an incredible East Africa experience. I recently booked a custom trip for group of 8 people, including an 8-year-old boy, from Kampala through Queen Elizabeth National Park and on to Rwanda and Burundi. Very organized travel operator who chose awesome guide to make our trip wonderful.We booked a nine days trip with Standard Safaris and all was perfect from start to finish. The company has very courteous tour guides with wide knowledge of fauna and frola in the whole of East Africa.The choice of safari Lodges is good with first class treatment.Game drive security is assured.Almost The whole of September I was traversing through DRC, Uganda,and Rwanda on a gorilla tour and wildlife expedition.Everything was arranged and booked perfectly by Standard Safaris.The owner, Coleb was always helpful whenever we needed to ask questions about this gorilla safari in Uganda and beyond.It was a complex expedition but Standard safaris and Coleb made it look amazingly easy.I’ll recommend Standard safaris 200%, for all gorilla safaris in Uganda, Rwanda and wildlife tours in east africa.

This is so far the best gorilla trekking company in Uganda, and africa, by far.
