Overview.
Spend these 14 days on a Uganda gorilla trekking and mountain Rwenzori hike passing through Queen Elizabeth National Park for an enroute game drive. Hike Rwenzori and encounter the beautiful Margherita peak standing at 5,109m, visit the gorillas during gorilla trekking tour in Bwindi and spend an hour in their presence.
Have a stopover at the equator in Kayabwe, city tour in Kampala where places like Uganda national museum, local markets, Gadhafi Mosque and historical monuments. While in Queen Elizabeth National Park, spot the rare tree-climbing lions, elephants, warthogs, buffalos, zebras, Uganda Kobs and other animals.
Detailed Itinerary.
Day 1. Arrival and head to the hotel
Arrive at the airport in Entebbe and transfer to a hotel in Entebbe/Kampala. This will be after the driver guide helping you to acquire all the required materials you might need to use while on this safari.
Day 2. Head to Kasese in western Uganda
Leave early in the morning after breakfast and transfer to Kasese in western Uganda using the route with great scenery of the tea plantations, forests, Rwenzori mountain ranges, roadside markets and more. Have enroute lunch served in Fort Portal town with an option of visiting Tooro palace on Karuzika hill? Proceed to Kasese and check in the accommodation facility for dinner.
Day 3. Hike from Nyakalengija to Nyabitaba hut
Wake up and head to the starting point of this amazing hike to Margherita Peak after breakfast and this will be at Nyakalengija gate. Be briefed and get all you expect to meet, hire Porters, and register with the park warden and more. The hike will begin with fellow crew members and a park guide as you pass through the Bakonzo homesteads and then through the forest full of different primates, birds and other creatures. Arrive at Nyabitaba hut for dinner and night.
Day 4. Hike to John Matte through Mubuku River
Follow the trail down into the forest after breakfast and hike for 5 to 7 hours. This trail seems to be slippery as you pass through the bamboo forest crossing the Mubuku Bujuku River on Kurt Shafer Bridge. While on this trail enjoy the scenery of Mt Baker and Mt Speke. Also, enjoy the unique plants of giant lobelia and groundsel as you pass through the tiring bog before reaching to John Matte hut where you spend a night.
Day 5. Hike to Bujuku hut
Ascend more to a height of 3962m at Bujuku hut while enjoying another type of vegetation as you cross the Bujuko River home to giant lobelias in the big bog as you view Mt Bake and Mt Stanley and also Bujuko Lake. Dinner and night leisure will be at Bujuku Hut.
Day 6. Hike to Elena’s hut
The trail here takes you more to the bog as you climb the steep slopes, as you ascend to sort Elliot. Meet. A metal ladder takes you higher in the mountains which is later divided into two directions and here, take the right direction which leads you to Elena hut standing at 4541m where you will have the night refreshments.
Day 7. Hike to the summit and descend to Kitandara hut
The hike to Margherita Peak (the summit) takes about 5 to 7 hours depending on the weather and the Hiking pace. This means that you need to wake up early enough with the help of the headlight lamp and by around 8 am you be on the summit enjoying the sunrise. Take photos, shed tears of joy and start the descent back to Kitandara hut.
Day 8. Descend to Guy Yeoman
Descend more to Guy Yeoman’s hut a walk taking about 5 hours. This is a tremendous walk as you encounter the beautiful view side of Congo.
Day 9. Descend to Nyabitaba hut
The descent is about takes about 6 to 7 hours as you pass through the Kichuchu, through the muddy path in Mobuku River. The walk will end at Nyabitaba hut standing at 2651m above sea level.
Day 10. Nyakalengija gate and transfer to a hotel in Kasese
Descend more to Nyakalengija gate to sign out, hand over the hire materials, jubilate and meet the driver guide ready to take you to the booked hotel in Kasese town.
Day 11. Game drive in Queen Elizabeth NP and transfer to Bwindi National Park
Leave Kasese in the morning and have a game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park a home to the rare tree-climbing lions. There is a lot to see while on this experience such as elephants, lions, warthogs, Uganda Kobs, lions, hyenas, and baboons among others. Proceed with a drive passing through the Ishasha sector where you get a chance to meet the tree-climbing lions. Arrive in Bwindi and check in at the booked lodge.
Day 12. Gorilla trekking tour
Begin the beautiful and memorable day with breakfast and then head to the park offices for briefing. This exercise is very important since you be told about the dos and don’ts to follow, meet fellow trekkers, park ranger guides and porters to trek with and more.
Begin the search for these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat as you meet other creatures like varvet monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, olive baboons, colobus monkeys and more. On meeting the gorillas, spend an hour following these gentle giants as they feed, and search for food while the Silverback practices leadership skills. Capture memories and then transfer back to the hotel with your trekking certificate for leisure.
Day 13. Transfer back to Kampala, via the equator
Leave Bwindi in the morning and transfer back to Kampala with a stopover at the Uganda equator in Kayabwe. Here take memorable photos, but souvenirs and enjoy lunch. Proceed to Kampala and have dinner at the booked hotel.
Day 14. City tour and drive to Entebbe airport for departure flight
Have a short city tour like visiting notable attractions like the Uganda Museum, local markets, historical monuments and Gadhafi Mosque. Later on, head to Entebbe International Airport for a flight back home.
