It was designed as a research and conservation area, and the garden now features a mix of indigenous and exotic plant species. The land is divided into different sections that are occupied by tropical forests, grasslands, and wetland ecosystems.
This has attracted over 250 bird species, both migratory and residents, that call Botanical Gardens Entebbe a home. Among the birds that can be spotted here are Yellow White-eye, Purple-banded Sunbird, African Jacana, Lesser Jacana, Yellow-billed Duck, Glossy Ibis, African Open-billed Stork, Malachite Kingfisher, Blue-cheeked Bee-eater, Common Sandpiper, Wood Sandpiper, Green Sandpiper, Black Crake, Long-tailed Cormorant, Crowned Hornbill, Vieillot’ Black Weaver, Woodland Kingfisher and more.

The time for birding in Botanical Gardens Entebbe is in the morning from 6 am to 10 am and 3 pm to 6 pm when birds are active. Some of the birds here are woodland kingfisher, Eurasian hobby, yellow wagtail, common sandpiper, Willow warbler, pallid harrier, European bee-eater, northern wheatear, and more.
