Nature walks are among the activities done in the park for tourists visiting Kibale Forest National Park. Night/Nocturnal walks
The night walks start after sunset in the forest to spot nocturnal animals such as bush babies, common Potto, owls, and more. The night walks are conducted with the guidance of the armed park ranger with headlight lamps, pointers, and jungle boats, and these walks will give you a glimpse of the park’s nightlife.
The crater lakes walk.
This is normally organized by Isunga Cultural Community Association/tours, where a local guide takes you to explore more than three crater lakes. The walk is through the community, where you encounter people carrying things using their heads and spot different crops, including cash and food crops. Learning about the formations of these crater lakes, activities done like fishing and swimming as you pass through a community forest to the top of the world with a panoramic view of the three crater lakes, tea plantations, and Kibale forest.
Swamp walks
The swamp walks take place in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a corridor for wildlife in the Kibale forest. This is a must-visit for birding enthusiasts. There is a lot to spot here, such as the primates like olive baboons, red-tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, red colobus monkeys, and more. Reptiles like snakes are also spotted, as birds like the Black Bishop, Hairy-breasted Barbet, Bocage’s Bush-shrike, Yellow-billed Barbet, and more.
Short nature walks in the park cost about USD 40 for foreigners and UGX 40,000 for East African citizens. Payments are made at Uganda Wildlife Authority offices through a local operator. In Kibale Forest National Park, nature walks are mostly conducted at the Kanyanchu visitor center and Sebitoli gate.

The best time to take a nature walk in this great national park depends on the tourist’s interests, preferences, and the specific wildlife experience he or she is seeking. However, most travelers find the dry season to be the best time to take a nature walk. The seasons occur in June to August and December to February. The trails are less muddy, making it easier to trek and navigate, wildlife, especially primates, tend to congregate at water sources, making it easy to be spotted, and again, there is no interruption with the rains.
The wet season occurs from March to May and September to November. During this time, the forest is lush and vibrant, creating a magical atmosphere, this is a season of flowering and fruiting, hence calling for wildlife to keep in the same location, such as birds and several tourists, calling for privacy and a serene experience.
