This 1 day nature walk in Rwenzori Mountains National Park offers an immersive experience through the park’s lush montane forests. The walk starts at Nyakalengija gate with the help of the park ranger guide, and the walk takes you along scenic trails. You will have opportunities to spot primates like the black and white colobus monkeys and blue monkeys, as well as rich varieties of birds like the Rwenzori turaco. Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Nature walk and departure
Your day will begin early in the morning upon your arrival at Nyakalengija Visitors Centre, the main entry of Rwenzori Mountains National Park. This point is located at the foothills of the mountain of the moon. At around 8:00 am, meet the ranger guide, porters, and escorts who will take you on the nature walk after a briefing. At around 8:30 am, the walk will begin from the lower mountain trails.
The walk is through the Bakonzo homesteads to learn more about the culture of these people who live in the mountains. Then, it goes through the montane vegetation to spot primates, birds, and many more. The guide will elaborate on each and every spot, including the ancient trees, local herbs, and more. Keep an eye out for wildlife such as blue monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, three-horned chameleons, and more.
Around noon, have a break at a scenic viewpoint with panoramic views of Mubuku River Valley and the dramatic portal points in the background. After a lunch break, head back to the Nyakalengija gate as you take another trail or use the same trail, learning more about conservation efforts, spotting more wildlife, and enjoying the serenity of the surroundings. At around 4:00 am, arrive at Nyakalengija gate, sign out, and head to the agreed drop-off point. This marks the end of the nature walk in Rwenzori Mountains National Park.
