Overview
Explore the western part of Uganda on this 6-day guided safari. This offers a chance to visit diverse landscapes and wildlife species. While on this safari, you will meet mountain gorillas, tree-climbing lions, and chimpanzees in their natural homes. Apart from that, you will float on different open waters as you cruise on a motor boat. The 6 days western Uganda safari starts in Kampala/Entebbe and ends in Entebbe. You will head to national parks, Queen Elizabeth, Bwindi Impenetrable, and Lake Mburo.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Lake Mburo NP. Boat cruise in the afternoon and evening game drive
In the morning, our driver will meet you at your accommodation in Kampala or Entebbe. You will be picked up and transferred to Lake Mburo National Park to the southwest. The journey is around 229.2 kilometers along the Kampala-Masaka-Mbarara highways. This is a chance to enjoy beautiful peri-urban, urban, and countryside views. A stop in the Mpigi district presents a chance to take photos at the Equator Crossing. Arrive in Lake Mburo National Park and check in at your pre-booked lodge. Enjoy lunch at your lodge.
Head to Lake Mburo to enjoy an afternoon boat cruise. While on the boat on the shimmering lake, watch birds and animals like crocodiles, hippos, etc. There are lovely hills that form nice backdrops for photography. In the evening, you will drive on the tracks of the park to enjoy an evening game drive. This opportunity is for you to see giraffes, hippos, buffaloes, zebras, and impalas, among other animals. Return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Afternoon chimpanzee trekking at Kyambura Gorge
In the morning, you will check out of the lodge after taking breakfast. You will transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park to the west. The journey is only 131.1 kilometers, taking a duration of almost 3 hours via the Mbarara-Kasese route. Arrive at Uganda’s most visited national park and head to your pre-booked lodge. Check in and refresh. After lunch, you will head to Kyambura Gorge. This forested habitat has a habituated chimpanzee troop.
You will enjoy the afternoon chimpanzee trek here. This experience will start with a short briefing where the guide will offer instructions for trekking. Search for the chimpanzee troop and find them. Viewing time is 1 hour, but you will enjoy this unforgettable moment with photography also allowed. Return to your lodge for relaxation and dinner. This is where you will stay for the night.
Day 3: Game drive and boat cruise
Wake up for a morning game drive. This is after the early morning breakfast. Go to the lush savannahs of Kasenyi, where plenty of animal species roam. This wildlife viewing experience offers opportunities to see lions, leopards, elephants, topis, and others. Do not forget to see some birds because there are plenty of them. Return to your lodge and relax in the lounge or swimming pool. You will have an expertly prepared lunch.
There will be a boat cruise that starts at around 2:00 p.m. Go for this amazing experience that happens on the Kazinga Channel. Enjoy seeing amphibious animals like Nile crocodiles and hippopotamuses. Birds that love proximity to waterbodies are also plentiful. These include the malachite kingfisher, African fish eagle, African skimmer, and saddle-billed stork, etc. Return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi (enroute game drive in Ishasha sector). Stay at the Buhoma sector.
Wake up to enjoy a warm breakfast. Check out of the lodge and depart for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You will first enjoy an enroute game drive in the Ishasha sector. Ishasha is where tree-climbing lions live. Enjoy a game drive in this special place. In addition to the tree-climbing lions, you will also see warthogs, topis, Uganda kobs, elephants, and birds. Have enroute lunch and proceed to the Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Buhoma sector headquarters is roughly 52.8 kilometers to the south of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Buhoma is home to the first-ever habituated gorilla family. This being an iconic site, you will have the most memorable gorilla trek. You will arrive at your lodge. Check in and relax. You will stay here after your dinner.
Day 5: Gorilla trekking in Buhoma
Begin your morning with a nourishing breakfast, then park some lunch. Setout for an unforgettable gorilla trekking adventure in the Buhoma sector. Before tracking a habituated gorilla family, you will participate in a mandatory briefing. This is where park personnel introduce you to gorilla trekking guidelines. Start tracking the gorilla family, following the park guide’s lead. Viewing time for gorilla trekking is 1 hour, but nothing short of memorable.
Enjoy this moment and observe the experience through photography. Returning to the starting point will also be amazing, as you will be full of joy. Attend the debriefing and also receive your gorilla trekking certificate. Your dedicated driver will bring you back to your lodge. Have dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 6: Transfer to Entebbe Airport. Departure
Awaken to the promise of a new day, before you savor a delightful breakfast. Check out of your lodge and depart for Entebbe Airport. This 470.6-kilometer journey through Mbarara, Masaka, and Kampala takes 10-11 hours. Pause in Mbarara to enjoy some delicious enroute lunch. When you arrive in Entebbe, you will be dropped off at the international airport. The 6 days western Uganda safari ends right before your departure flight.
