Gulu City is in the Gulu district, the commercial and administrative city in the northern region of Uganda. It is surrounded by districts such as; Nwoya district in the southwest, Amuru district in the west, Lamwo district in the northwest, Lira district in the southeast, Pader district in the east, and Oyam in the south. It is 333 km away from Kampala the capital city of Uganda.
Gulu is home to the Acholi people, this tribe also spans districts of Nwoya, Agago, Kitgum, Pader, and Lamwo among other surrounding districts. Acholi tribe is part of the Luo ethnic group and this larger family spreads in northern, west Nile, northern and eastern regions of Uganda, South Sudan and western Kenya.
