You then send the money and then we purchase or book your permit. You will receive a soft copy of the permit and acknowledgement receipt as proof of payment. How much is Chimpanzee Habituation Permit in Kibale NP?
If you are a foreign nonresident, you will have to pay $300 while a foreign resident must pay $250. Citizens of countries from within the East African Community pay shillings 250,000 respectively. After buying the permit, you will not need to pay for the entrance fee, guiding the contribution toward community development. Any of the rates mentioned cater for all of that. From the 1st January 2027, foreign nonresidents will pay $400 and foreign residents will pay $300. Visitors from the Rest of Africa will be required to pay $250 per person, while the rate for EAC remains the same.
How chimpanzee habituation is done?
From 6:30 a.m. you must be at the park to attend briefing organized by the well-informed park ranger. Take this session seriously because you get insight into what you can do and not do while on the tracking and habituation experience. You will meet the researchers and habituators, whom you will track and observe the semi-habituated chimpanzee community with. Start to track the community of chimpanzees in the forest, and, you will most likely than not find them. For 4 hours, you will observe them upon meeting face-to-face. After watching their behavior closely with the researchers and habituators, return to the park offices to conclude the chimp habituation experience.
When to Travel for Chimpanzee Habituation Experience?
In Kibale National Park, chimpanzee habituation experiences are done every day—throughout the year. Unless you are looking for less challenging walking experiences in the forest, visit any day. But, if you would love to avoid muddy trails and very dense vegetation, visit Kibale National Park during the dry season. Starting from June to mid-September and December until February, dry weather conditions occur in Kibale Forest. This is what leads to less rainfall patterns thus drier and less humid atmospheric conditions.
A part from walking steadily, you can get clearer views of the chimps as some of them climb high up in trees. Also access to the park is not difficult since roads are much easier to navigate. Nevertheless, wet seasons—March to May and October to November—also offer exciting experiences. This is when rainfall is too much and moving in the forest is too challenging. In such conditions, the fully grown leaves make observing the chimps a lot harder but worth it if you can see them.
How to Travel to Kibale?
Air transport and road transport are available for your transfer to Kibale National Park. Each of these modes of transport has their unique advantages. Road transport offers scenic views as Uganda is endowed with many interesting natural wonders, ranging from hills, open waters and vegetation. There is a 276km drive from Kampala to Kibale National Park via Mubende, Mityana and Fort Portal. Stops for capturing photos, enroute lunch and stretching your muscles are offered.
Air transfers are available to Kibale if you find the 5-6-hour drive so long of a journey. Scheduled flights are offered by AeroLink Uganda, from Entebbe Airport to Kasese Airstrip. The flight duration is 2 hours and 30 minutes. The airstrip at Kasese being 50.6km away from Kibale National Park, you will complete your journey with road transport. Our representative will wait for you to arrive and drive you to Kibale National Park. This is an additional 1 and a half hours of traveling to the forest or your accommodation.
