Uganda Wildlife Education Centre in Entebbe, central Uganda is a captivating place for exploring Uganda’s wildlife in captivity. The centre was originally a place for rescued or orphaned wild animals. To this day, they are rescued and rehabilitated. Some of the animals are reintroduced into the wild. So far, 543 animals have been rescued by the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre.
Other animals are displayed for visitors to appreciate Uganda’s biodiversity. Visitors get amazing opportunities to witness how a range of animal species feed, play and get treated. What to see in Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre?
With approximately 253 animals kept in the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre, there is plenty to see. There are a variety of mammal, bird, reptile, and amphibian species that you will find here. Among the many, you will see common chimps, shoebill, white rhinos, giraffes, zebras, African rock pythons, and Nile crocodiles. More species include serval cats, vervet monkeys, Egyptian cobra, gaboon viper, impala, and Jackson’s hartebeest.
Some animal species can be encountered on free range. These include plenty of birds and some primates. Examples of animals on free range are olive baboon, red-tailed monkey, and patas monkey, among others. Common birds on free-range include bulbul, grey crowned crane, eastern plantain eater, pied crow, and others. There are plenty of butterflies and lizards that you can see while moving around the destination.

Birding
There are around 250 distinct bird species at the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre. These include both native and migratory species, among others, and reside in any of the 4 habitats in the destination. Among them, you can encounter the African firefinch, crowned hornbill, woodland kingfisher, palm nut vulture, pied crow, and Ross’s turaco, to mention but a few. You can also see the black crake, Senegal coucal, yellow-throated tinkerbird, and canary white eye.
Forest walk
An opportunity to stretch your muscles in a pristine forest for 1 km of walking. In the forest, there are plenty of free-range birds, reptiles, and butterflies. With over 100 species of plants in the forest, you can identify and gain knowledge about different medicinal plants in Uganda. Learn about the significance of these plant species to people and the ecosystem. You are also allowed to take photos for your future memories.
Recreation
There is a Lake Victoria beach at the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre for visitors to enjoy the cool atmosphere. You can also walk on the sand with your feet to do some exercise. Keeper for a day
Visitors who appreciate the conservation efforts of the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre are offered this opportunity. They can spend the day with the animal keepers and engage in quite similar tasks. You will get first-hand experience of cleaning animal enclosures, prepare animal meals and also providing enrichment to animals. This costs USD 150 and advanced payment is required for adequate preparation at the centre.
Long-stay volunteer program
This opportunity is offered to visitors who are enthusiastic about sensitizing communities about wildlife and environment. This requires dedicating time like at least a week and some may prefer to volunteer for weeks, months or up to a year. Volunteers also get an opportunity to care for rescued animals in distress or sick. Feeding the animals and cleaning their holding facilities is also an exciting way to volunteer at the centre.

Driving to the destination after an international flight will take you less than a quarter of an hour. From Kampala city, driving to the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre will take around 50 minutes. This is due to the road trip covering only 36 km.
