Though the 3 Days might seem few for gorilla trekking, the experience is within and beyond expectations. You will visit Virunga national park in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa’s oldest national park gazetted in 1925. It is part of the Congo basin forests, ranked as the second-largest rain forest after Amazon.
You will track the endangered mountain gorillas that possess 98% Human DNA, almost similar body structure as humans, as well as their social behaviors. When tracking, you also come across other primates such as the chimpanzees, and more than 400 birds as well as sighting the most active volcano, Mount Nyiragongo.
Day 1: Drive to Virunga national park.
Our company representative will welcome you at the airport, give you reception and brief you on everything you have and may expect during the trip, in case time allows, then have a simple city tour around Kigali town, one of the cleanest cities in the world, visit the genocide memorial Grounds to pay some tributes.
Have lunch before proceeding with the Journey to Virunga national park in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a 4-5-hour drive Via Gisenyi border and straight to your lodge feeding your eyes with the breathtaking Virunga mountain slopes and the surrounding plantations.
Reach late in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: 2-6 hours’ gorilla tracking experience and Village Walk.
Start your day with a cup of coffee before heading to Bukima or Mikeno patrol post where you will meet the local Guides who will conduct a briefing about Virunga gorilla trekking rules before accompanying you to the jungles in quest of our closest relatives in their natural habitat in the think rainforest.
The trekking excise can last for up to 6 hours depending on how far the gorillas have moved and your tracking speed and fitness.
Upon meeting them, one hour is yours to watch them play and interact among themselves.
When all is done, get back to your lodge for lunch, then head for a village walk, where you will observe the villagers move with their daily chores, on the way, have some entertainment interlude and return when the sun sets for dinner and campfire till late at night, when you will have to retire for bed.
Day 3: Depart to Kigali.
Upon having breakfast, you will drive back to Kigali International Airport but having a stopover at Goma, a city that was at one point in time brought down by the volcano eruption, enjoy the sight-seeing session and some guided tour through for approximately 30mins then proceed to the airport for Departure.
