6 Days Mountain Gorilla & Lowland Gorilla Trekking

Six days in the Democratic Republic of Congo are perfectly enough to allow you explore the country’s popular homes of gorillas. The trip takes you to Virunga national park; the oldest park in Africa and then to Kahuzi Biega national park, the famous home for the eastern low land gorillas. In the six days, you will trek the gorillas two times.

Day 1: Arrival and hotel transfer in Kigali city.

The first day of the trip, you arrive at the airport in Kigali where you will be picked by our experienced tour guide. He will brief you about the whole trip as he transfers you to the lodge in Kigali where you will spend the night.

For early arrivals, you can embark on a brief city tour to discover both historical and cultural significant features located across Kigali city.

Day 2: City tour in Kigali and travel to Virunga national park.

Today, have a city tour in Kigali after breakfast. Visit the Kigali Genocide memorial site, other museums and craft shops. After lunch in Kigali town, then start traveling to Virunga national park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. You will have the cross border experience at the border of Rwanda and Congo. Arrival at the park will be in the evening for dinner and overnight as you prepare for the next day.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking.

Early morning, have breakfast and head out to the park headquarters to catch up with the gorilla trekking briefing. Here the local park ranger takes you through the rules and regulations of Gorilla trekking. Be divided into groups of eight trekkers and then hit the forest to search out for the gorillas.

Trekking the gorillas takes about two to six hours in the forests and you will spend one magical hour in the presence of the gorillas, watching them feeding and playing on tree branches. After the one hour, you will slope back to the headquarters and to the lodge where you will have lunch, relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Travel to Kahuzi Biega national park.

Having had breakfast, start the journey to Kahuzi Biega national park, enjoying the beautiful sights of the green lush that is laid on the great slopes along the numerous hills of D.R. Congo. The journey furnishes opportunities to feed your eyes with stunning views of the surrounding and local people and homesteads along the highway.

Day 5: Lowland gorilla trekking.

In the morning you will have breakfast and set off to the park station. Lowland gorilla trekking starts with a brief orientation from the local park guide who takes you through the guidelines of gorilla trekking.

This activity involves walking on the lower slopes of Kahuzi / Biega mountains on the hunt for elusive eastern lowland gorillas. You will spend one hour visualizing the mighty apes carry on their daily lives and learning so much about them. This is an experience truly unforgettable.

Day 6: Departure.

Have breakfast and travel back to Kigali city. The journey still gives you spectacular views of the green lush along the high way, having stopovers in several places of interest for pictures and short tours.
