Day 1: Transfer Kahuzi-Biega in the Democratic Republic Congo.
On this day, our company guide will pick you up from the agreed point, be it the airport, residence or Hotel, followed by a briefing where he will explain to you some things you should expect during the trip, before setting off for Kahuzi Biega national park in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The route is towards the southwestern part of Rwanda via the rolling hills and gorgeous scenery to Changugu Rwanda- Congo border.
Nevertheless, as you approach the border post, you will have a stopover at the genocide site in Butare where you will visit the National Museum of Rwanda, have lunch then proceed with your journey to Bukavu while feeding your eyes with eye-catching views all through with a clear sight of Rwanda’s freshest water body and the sixth largest lake in Africa (Lake Kivu). Cross the border to Congo where you will head your park for dinner and overnight waiting for the following day’s activities.
Day 2: First Lowland Gorilla trekking and Village walk
After breakfast, head out of the lodge with packed food, cameras, binoculars, and sufficient water to sustain you in case of thirst during the trekking time, after, drive to the park’s headquarters for apretrekking briefing where the guide will tell you the rules while trekking these gentle giants in the wilderness.
The guide will allocate you to a particular gorilla family that you will track for about 2-6hours depending on how far they have trekked, with one hour being yours to study their unique habits, female feeding their young ones, and many more attributes, it is really fun and every minute with these primates is very important.
After, have lunch, refresh and have and visit the neighboring village as you get closer to very interesting cultural experience, local dances and local cuisine, enjoy every detail of the trip up to the time when you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight
Day 3: 2nd Lowland Gorilla Trek and Visit Tshibati waterfalls
Start your day with breakfast and head to the park for yet another Gorilla trekking, today, they will allocate you to different Gorilla families with totally different behaviors and characteristics.
After the briefing session, the park rangers will escort you to the only wilderness in Africa with lowland gorillas, traverse the wilderness for unpredictable hours in search of the apes, and upon finding them, one hour is yours to study the unique habits and attributes in their body sizes.
Return to the lodge for lunch before heading to Tshibati waterfalls where you will spend your entire evening relaxing and taking photos, dinner and overnight will then follow.
Day 4: Departure to Kigali International Airport
After Breakfast, check out of the lodge with all the luggage and head for a return safari to Kigali international airport where you will get your flight, you will be driven crossing Cyangugu border to Rwanda, while enjoying a lot of interesting sights along the way till Rwanda. In case you reach early, have lunch, visit the local markets to buy some souvenirs before proceeding to the airport for your flight.
