7 Days Rwanda Gorillas & Serengeti Wildlife Safari

Overview.

The safari has been created to offer everything that can be included in a safari of this type. Begin this 7 day all – wildlife safari with a trip to the amazing revitalized country of Rwanda where you will have an excursion in her historical capital – Kigali and then to track gorillas in the area where Dian Fossey of “Gorillas in the Mist” film did her research.

Then head on to Tanzania where your safari has been designed to coincide when the Great Wildebeest Migration occurs in the Serengeti national park.

Great migration is one of the largest animal movements in the world and a spectacle so appealing to the eyes. The accommodations booked are wonderful, well-situated with excellent locations and organized in a manner to maximize your game viewing time and minimize your transfer times from park to park. It provides the option for some unique cultural opportunities as well.

Detailed itinerary.

Day 1: Arrive at Kigali international airport and transfer to Kigali city.

Today you will arrive in Kigali international airport in Rwanda where you will meet and greet your drover guide for the entire safari. After a short drive from the airport you will spend the night at the Hotel and this will be end of day one.

Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park.

You will undertake a city tour; visit the Genocide Memorial museum, local craft markets, presidential palace museum among others after breakfast. This offers a full truth description of what took place here 30 years ago.

After this tour, drive your way up to the northern province to the home of mountain gorillas, Pac National des Volcans (Volcanoes National Park). This is only about 200km transfer taking 3 hours’ drive on a smooth tarmac road.

You will have time to spend with your guide and get to know him as you journey north through beautiful terraced hillsides that characterize much of Rwanda’s landscape. This park, made famous in the movie Gorillas in the Mist was the base for the American naturalist Dian Fossey to carry out her research on the gorillas in the area.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking and Kinyarwanda cultural encounter

On this day after a morning breakfast, your guide will drive you to park headquarters. Here you will be briefed and be split up into groups of 8 people to trek to see one of the habituated gorilla families.

Once located the apes, the time of which will depend on where the Gorillas are that day, you will be able to spend an hour observing the gorillas in their natural habitat as they play, nature their children, laugh and feed.

In the afternoon after lunch, visit the local communities and enjoy the Kinyarwanda culture; traditional music and meals. The experience you need not to miss out while in Rwanda.

Day 4: Return to Kigali and fly to Tanzania.

Transfer from volcanoes national park to Kigali international airport after breakfast and immediately board a plane to make your way to Northern Tanzania. You will land at Arusha international airport where you will be transferred to the nearest hotel for a leisurely evening and dinner.

Day 5: Transfer from Arusha to Serengeti N/P.

Immediately after breakfast at the hotel, set off for a lengthy trip to Serengeti national park with your packed lunch. While on the journey, enjoy the beautiful scenery of savannah spreads. On the arrival in Serengeti national park in late afternoon which is Tanzania’s oldest and most celebrated national park.

The park is home to thousands of predators, big mammals and these are; buffaloes, lions, zebras, cheetahs, antelopes, elephants among others.

Day 6: Full day Serengeti wildlife safari.

After breakfast, transfer to one of Serengeti’s area best for viewing the wildebeest migration. Areas in Serengeti recommended for wildebeest migration viewing are Seronera valley in the central Serengeti.

Spend the next two days in Serengeti national park doing nothing but enjoying exhilarating game drives from morning sun rise to late afternoon sunset.

Witness the eye soothing Great Migration as millions of zebras and wildebeests traverse the golden savannah plains of Serengeti searching for water and pasture. The best months to be in central Serengeti are November and December.

Besides the great wildebeest migration, you might spot the big 5 African mammals as well as zebra, giraffe, cheetah, hyena, hippo, crocodile and lots of savannah bird species including the ostrich, the largest bird in the world.

Day 7: Transfer to Arusha and departure.

After breakfast, depart to Arusha international airport to catch up your scheduled flight and this will be the end of your 7 Days Rwanda Gorillas & Serengeti Wildlife Safari.
