Tour Overview

3 days Kyambura chimpanzee trekking tour is another rewarding experience in Queen Elizabeth National Park. You are taken to Kyambura Gorge, where chimpanzees dwell. Kyambura Gorge is situated in the heart of Queen Elizabeth National Park. This is Uganda’s open savanna national park. Trekking chimpanzee in Kyambura is quite different from other destinations in Uganda. You can track chimpanzees alongside four members of the big 5 of the jungle. Several lions, leopards, elephants and buffaloes are present. On this same tour expect to engage in the Equator experience and other nice sceneries such as Twin Lakes, and Kazinga channel.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Queen Elizabeth NP

On your first leg of the trip, you will be picked up by our driver guide, who will greet you, take you through the itinerary and then hit the road to southwestern Uganda where Queen Elizabeth National Park is found. You will leave Kampala city in the morning, the first stopover will be at the Equator, where you will take pictures s you stand in both hemispheres of the earth.

You will engage in the Equator experience, listen to the story and hit the road again with another stopover in Mbarara for lunch. After lunch, you will embark on the journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park. An en-route experience at the Twin lakes of Katinda and Mirambi awaits. Enjoy the scenery that these lakes offer prior to connecting to your lodge in Queen. Check-in, have dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and boat cruise

This is another eventful day where you will wake up in the morning, and greet your tummy with a delicious breakfast. Then head to the briefing centre inside Kyambura Gorge. Here you are told the dos and don’ts while tracking chimpanzees, and then you are also given a ranger guide who will help you to locate the chimps. Chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura is not so hectic since they can easily be found, spend an hour with them, and take pictures and videos as you enjoy the melodies of forest birds.

You will later return to the lodge, freshen up and have a hot lunch as you wait for the launch cruise in the evening that will come with its magical experience. While you are on the cruise, expect to see buffaloes, elephants, crocodiles, hippopotamuses etc. So many birds that will be seen very well at the shore of Kazinga channel. You will take pictures, especially of animals and sunsets then retire to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Game drive and departure

Arise in the morning, grab a cup of tea/coffee and head to the jungle for a game drive. Watch clearly the animals when they are still very active. You will be welcomed by herds of elephants, buffaloes, and lions and by luck, you will see a leopard. This rewarding trip ensures you enjoy the sunrise over the plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Worry not, because this gives you breathtaking views and animals as well. In the midmorning, return to the lodge, check out and head back to Kampala.

Lunch will be served in Mbarara, you can visit the Igongo Cultural Centre in case you are interested. When you reach the city, Kampala, a drop off should happen. This is the ultimate moment of your 3 days Kyambura Chimpanzee trekking tour.

We booked a 9-Days safari in Uganda with Standard Safaris, all-inclusive with a driver guide, all tour activities, permits and lodges. Honestly, we were very happy to have George as our guide. He drove us safely around the country and explained many things along the way. Thanks to him, we were able to spot many animals in the national parks, and we always stayed on track with our itinerary. The jeep was new and well maintained, however, the seats in the back were quite high with small windows, which made it difficult to look outside. If there were 10 stars I would give them. From my first "Hello" with Coleb to our last set of selfies on the equator with Denis, this tour company out-did themselves!! Absolutely professional and helpful from beginning to end. We're already booking another trip for next year! They had organised everything- gorilla permits, chimpanzee permits, all national park entrance fees, lodgings, every meal included. It was so easy I didn't even know where we were going until we were there! Pure relaxation. We had a few extra free days at the end so Coleb suggested adding on Mabamba Wetland and this was a wonderful experience with the shoebill and all these beautiful birds.
