TRIP DETAILS
Day 1: Travel to Mgahinga national park.
Upon arrival at the airport, be received and welcomed by our driver guide. Alternatively, be picked from the hotel you spent the previous night and start the journey to Mgahinga national park. The ten hour journey is filled with spectacular views of the landscape, the beautiful people and the exciting stopovers. First stop at the Uganda equator where you will have the water experiment to see how water flows to different directions in the opposite hemispheres of the world.
You will also take as many pictures as you want. Lunch will be in Mbarara town and then proceed to Mgahinga national park, enjoying the beautiful scenery. Arrival at the lodge is in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and Batwa people
Today you will trek the gorillas. Wake up to the sweet sounds of the birds in the neighboring jungle, have breakfast in the fresh morning breeze and head to the park station for gorilla trekking briefing. Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga national park involves a simple hike to the lower slopes of the Virunga volcanoes and trekking in the rugged terrain through unclearly paved trails.
You will spend one magical hour with apes on meeting them. Watch the little juveniles and black backs play on tree branches, silverbacks watching over their families and female adults feeding their young ones. It’s such a life time experience. After the one hour, slope back to the headquarters and to the lodge.
In the evening visit the Batwa community for a cultural treat to see how the Batwa pygmies used to hunt and gather fruits in the forest. Enjoying the traditional performances and tasting the local cuisines is a guarantee. Returning to the lode will be in the late evening to prepare for departure the next day.
Day 3: Departure
Today, just have breakfast, check out of the lodge and travel back to Kampala. This journey will feed your eyes with more beautiful sights of the magnificent landscape of the country, and that will be the end of the trip.
