3 DAYS UGANDA GORILLA HABITUATION EXPERIENCE

This 3-day gorilla habituation experience in Uganda is designed uniquely to allow you to have adequate time to explore more about the endangered mountain gorillas. Only 1063 mountain gorillas still survive in the wild and visiting them is possible either on normal gorilla trekking or gorilla habituation. Mountain gorilla habituation is done in only Rushaga sector, the Southern region/sector in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Gorilla habituation is a special primate experience, and it is a process where gorillas are trained to get familiar with human presence. Before gorilla group families are officially opened for tracking, they undergo habituation and this lasts for a period of 2 years, less/more. At Rushaga sector, the Kutu gorilla group will be explored on your gorilla habituation experience with a maximum of 4 guests led by an experienced park guide.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to the Rushaga sector of Bwindi

You will meet our company representative at a hotel in Kampala/Entebbe and he will brief you about this special primate expedition. After, board your comfortable 4×4 drive car ready to begin your long day journey of about 8-9 hours to Rushaga but expect a lot en route. En-route stopovers that this journey includes are the Equator crossing for photography and if time permits, perform a water experiment to determine the 2 hemispheres of the earth.

After photography at the Equator, drive to Igongo Cultural Center for a delicious meal and some refreshments. Leave Igongo for the Rushaga sector of Bwindi with a scenic drive in Southwestern Uganda, and once you have arrived, check in at your accommodation for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Uganda Gorilla Habituation Experience

Transfer from your lodge to Rushaga sector for a briefing about guidelines for gorilla habituation experience. This will be a long day of following Kutu gorilla family members with a guide/tracker and expect to take half day/full day, with enough time to take pictures, and explore how gorillas behave in the wild. The Gorilla habituation experience guarantees you 4 hours of a close encounter with the endangered mountain gorillas and after, return to your lodge for relaxation. Since it is a long day adventure, carry enough drinking water, energy-giving snacks and walking stick, etc.

Day 3: Rushaga back to Kampala/Entebbe

A leisurely breakfast will be enjoyed at the comfort of your lodge and this will be followed by checking out. You will start your return trip to Kampala/Entebbe early morning and expect to make a stopover at Mbarara/Igongo for lunch. After, proceed to a hotel in Kampala/Entebbe for your relaxation and it marks the end of your 3-day gorilla habituation safari in Uganda.

We went on a two-week trip with my family, organised by Coleb from Standard Safaris.I had my concerns about organised trips, but this one didn’t justify any of those. Everything went very smoothly, even when some problems arose with one of the cars it got fixed by next morning, the accomodations were clean and comfortable, the programs were exciting and well-balanced - everything was done to a truly high standard.If you plan to visit Uganda and are looking for a guide, I warmly recommend Coleb and his team. In case you have a choice of drivers, go for Godwin, his presence made this trip even more enjoyable - cheerful, helpful, good sense of humour, generally a great person. Just look for the guy with a big smile and big heart:)

We are all extremely grateful Standard Safaris for an incredible East Africa experience. I recently booked a custom trip for group of 8 people, including an 8-year-old boy, from Kampala through Queen Elizabeth National Park and on to Rwanda and Burundi. Very organized travel operator who chose awesome guide to make our trip wonderful.We booked a nine days trip with Standard Safaris and all was perfect from start to finish. This is so far the best gorilla trekking company in Uganda, and africa, by far.
