Day 1: Travel to Bwindi impenetrable forest national park.
The trip starts in Kampala with a pick up from the hotel or the agreed upon meeting place. The guide briefs you about the whole trip and then start the journey to Bwindi impenetrable forest national park. This is a nine-hour drive from Kampala, giving outstanding views of Uganda’s countryside and numerous exciting stopovers.
The first stopover will be at the Uganda equator for the water experiment and pictures. Lunch will be in Mbarara, a historic town and capital of Ankole region and then drive straight to the park, reaching in the evening to just check in, have dinner and overnight.
Day 2: 1st Gorilla trekking tour and Batwa community.
Early morning, after breakfast head to the park station for gorilla trekking briefing from the local park ranger. After going through the rules and regulations of trekking the gorillas, be divided into groups of eight trekkers, the maximum number of trekkers allowed to visit a gorilla family per day. Trekking the gorillas in Bwindi takes you to the thick forest, walking on a rugged terrain, holding onto tree branches for support and avoiding thorny trees.
You will strictly spend one magical hour in the presence of the apes, seeing how they play from one tree branch to the other, feeding and carrying on their daily lives. When the hour elapses, slope back to the headquarters and to the lodge for lunch.
The evening will be for visiting the Batwa community to see how these ancient people used to hunt and gather fruits in their forest days. Be sure of enjoying the cultural performances and tasting the local cuisines. Have personal encounters with these forest pygmies to see the world through their eyes. It will simply be an amazing evening.
Day 3: 2nd Gorilla trekking in Bwindi.
Just like the previous, have an early breakfast and rush to the park station. Engage in the gorilla trekking briefing and hit the jungle for the search of the gorillas in another gorilla family, different from the one you trekked the previous day. Trekking a different gorilla family gives one a chance to encounter two gorilla families in Bwindi, both presenting unique attributes. From the trek, slope back to the headquarters for your second certificate of participation and back to the lodge.
Day 4: Travel back to Kampala.
Today, just have breakfast and start travelling back to Kampala. This amazing nine-hour drive to Uganda’s capital marks the end of the four days’ double trekking safari in Bwindi. Have more spectacular views of the Kigezi highlands and Virunga ranges, as well as the stunning un spoilt flora along the highway.
