The safari will take you to the Switzerland of Africa in Kabale and Kisoro with spectacular view of Kigezi highlands. You will visit the two national parks that are home to the remaining endangered mountain gorillas in Uganda, that is Mgahinga and Bwindi national parks. While here, trek the sought after mountain gorillas, golden monkeys and also visit the local Batwa community with an amazing traditional dance and meals.
Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi N/P from Kampala.
On this first day, you will be welcomed by the company English speaking driver guide who will later transfer you to Bwindi impenetrable national park. The park is 331sq.km with the main attractions being the mountain gorillas and others are over 340 bird species, more than 200 butterfly species and about 220 species of trees, among others. You will have lunch en route in Mbarara town or the nearby Igongo cultural centre as you enjoy relaxed Kinyankole dances and music.
Proceed to the park and check in at your accommodation facility on arrival for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Bwindi gorilla trekking and transfer to Mgahinga N/Park.
Drive to the park headquarters of any gorilla region for a short briefing about the rules and regulations about the gorilla trekking. This can take 20-30 minutes; at this point you are allowed to ask any question you want to about the park and gorillas. Later penetrate the impenetrable with the help of the armed park ranger in search for these apes.
Locating these gorillas depends on their movements because they keep moving from one place to another in search for food. Upon locating them, you will be allowed an hour to be with them as you take videos and memorable photos. While on the trek, you will sight a variety of other attractions such as the different tree species, butterflies, and numerous bird species among others.
Trek back to the starting point and your driver guide will be ready to transfer you to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon transfer to Mgahinga national park which is about 94km, a journey taking 2-3hours drive via scenic places including a view point for all the eight Virunga mountains. Check in your accommodation for overnight.
Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and Batwa community visit.
Enjoy a cup of coffee/Tea and head to the park headquarters for another great experience. After briefing, head to the jungle in search for these unique species of monkeys and while on the trek, enjoy the beautiful bird species, tree species, and butterflies among others. After an hour of locating the golden monkeys, you will trek back for leisurely lunch.
In the afternoon, enjoy the historical Batwa people as they dance, prepare their food among others. Later in the evening, as the sun sets over the forest, retire for dinner as you prepare for the next day’s departure.
Day 4: Transfer back to Kampala.
This is the last day of your tour and on this day, you will transfer back to Kampala after breakfast, embark on a road trip adventure of a distance of 473km taking 8-9hours. You will pass via the Uganda equator in Kayabwe and make a stopover to take photos and lunch. Proceed to the airport for your scheduled flight and this will be the end of the tour.
