5 Days Mount Rwenzori Hike

Tour Overview 

5 Days Rwenzori hike is a unique safari that is taking you to spot the wonderful ranges of Rwenzori which are the biggest in Africa. Mountain Rwenzori Rangers is located at the border of Uganda and D.R Congo which will expose you to great heights and you will be on top of Uganda and Congo. Mountain Rwenzori’s highest peak is Margherita which is 5,119 meters above sea level. The mountain is composed of other misty peaks which are; Mt. Stanely, Mt. Speke, Mt. Beker, Mt. Emin Pasha, Mt. Luigi di Savoia and Mt. Gessi on the side of Congo.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick-up and transfer to Kasese

Upon arrival, our driver guide will be ready to receive you at the Airport, he will take you through the itinerary and then immediately transfer you to Kasese via Fort Portal where you will have lunch. Fort Portal is also known as the tourism city, it has the best hilly sceneries covered with tea plantations, after lunch, you will hit the road again, arrive in Kasese in the evening, check in the hotel have dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Transfer to Nyakalengija then to Nyabitaba Hut (2,650m)

Arise in the early morning, grab breakfast and be transferred to Mountain Rwenzori National Park where you will be briefed about the hiking, you will be able to hire porters as well and hit the mountain. You will go through the Bakonjo villages, and cross River Mobuku and Mahoma River. 

You expect to meet some wildlife like monkeys, baboons, birds and the sounds of chimps as you continue gaining height to Nyabitaba Hut which is 2,650 meters. This trek will take you about 5 to 6 hours depending on your speed. Arrive at the hut which is the destination of the day, enjoy your lunch, relax, have dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Nyabitaba Hut to John Matte Hut (3,380m)

Arise in the morning, have breakfast and chase today’s John Matte which is the destination of the day. You will descend the ridge to Mobuku River through bamboo as you approach John Matte’s 3,380 meters high.

 This is going to be a bit tiring, as you ascend north of Bujuku River through the heater forest, arrive at John Matte in the next 5 hours, relax as you rejuvenate, and have lunch, dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Descend to Nyabitaba

This is going to be another day for you to descend after you have reached the height of 3,380 meters. You will have your breakfast and start your day by descending to Nyabitaba. This is going to be your last night at the mountain. 

Day 5: Transfer to Nyakalengija then to Kampala/Entebbe 

You will arise in the morning, enjoy breakfast, celebrate with fellow trekkers as you congratulate them or having reached the great heights, then descent to the warm forests where you will meet the animals, proceed to Nyakalengija which will take you about 2 hours.

 You will meet your driver guide at Nyakalengija the hike starting point, he will then transfer you back to Kampala/Entebbe with lunch en-route in Kasese.

 If you are a jungle enthusiast you can combine this with gorilla trekking in Bwindi or Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale. This will mark the end of your safari.
