The rules and procedures of gorilla trekking in all the gorilla hosting countries are standard and cut across all three countries.
Usually trekking is only permitted to visitors with gorilla trekking permits that are purchased by the tourists around 3 months prior to the activity due to demand.
On the trekking day, tourists start their preparations in the wee hours by gathering around at the headquarters of the park to have a brief meeting where they are informed of the trekking rules and regulations. After the gathering, tourists form groups of eight individuals and hit the jungle.
While trekking, the hardships of the landscape are not endured by the tourists alone but also by their experienced tour guides that lead them through the forest not forgetting their armed rangers who are always on the lookout to protect the lives of the tourists.
Tourists spend 30 minutes or more hours trekking depending on where the particular family prefers foraging.
On meeting the gorilla family, tourists are permitted a maximum of an hour of admiring the lives of the gorillas, watching them feed, play with infants and tourists shouldn’t miss on capturing the endless lovable moments that dazzle their eyes as long as their gadgets have no flashlights.
Tourists must keep a required distance of about 7 meters away from the gorillas to ensure that the gorillas’ peace is not tampered with.
