In this 9 days Uganda primates and Kenya migration safari, you will explore two of the world’s prime safari destinations in the East of the continent of Africa. Spend 8 nights of good sleep and food, rare encounters with the famous animals like the lions, leopards, wildebeests, African elephants, the Cape buffaloes, zebras, warthogs, and more.

You will have a guided walking safari and boat cruise at Lake Mburo National Park, a game drive at Queen Elizabeth National Park, chimpanzee trekking at the Valley of Apes, gorilla trekking, and Batwa pygmy trail at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda. Game drive, witnessing the annual wildebeest migration, and hot air balloon safaris at Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. This trip starts at Entebbe International Airport in Uganda and ends at Nairobi City in Kenya.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pickup from Entebbe airport to Lake Mburo National Park. Afternoon relaxation or visit the Ankole homesteads to explore their culture

When you land at Entebbe International Airport, meet our driver guide for a 3-4 hour scenic drive to Lake Mburo National Park. En route stopover at the equator for photography and a meal. The route offers a view of the lush plantations, dotted homesteads, and busy towns. After arriving at the lodge, you will check in and spend the evening relaxing, or you can visit the local communities to uncover what rural life means. The Ankole culture is centered on their long-horned cattle, which you will watch, and try some practices like milking. End this day with dinner and a nap.

Day 2: Game walking safari and boat cruise

Today, you will wake up for a 7 am game drive in the open savannah grassland, looking for the early risers and the different grazers for 3-4 hours.  How lucky you are will determine what the walk yields. Look out for the impalas, Uganda Kobs, zebras, elephants, buffaloes, Uganda Kobs, and lots more.

You will appreciate the beauty of the landscape, identify the different plants, and name the different birds the eyes will see. After the walk, have a lunch break, and an evening boat cruise, where you will look at the hippos and crocodiles, among others. End this day with dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Kyambura Gorge. Afternoon chimpanzee trekking

Start your day with a delicious breakfast meal at the lodge and then transfer to the Valley of Apes, Kyambura gorge, located at the border with the Queen Elizabeth National Park, the second largest national park in Uganda.

Arrive early for lunch, and in at 2 pm, get to the park headquarters for a pre-trekking briefing, where the ranger guides will explain the trekking dos and don’ts, and accompany you for the trek, this session lasts for approximately 1-4 hours, plus one hour for watching and taking photos of the chimpanzees as they feed, and play. End this day with dinner and a nap.

Day 4: Game drive at Ishasha sector and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Kick start this day with a lip-smacking breakfast meal at the lodge. After checkout of the lodge for a transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, with a stopover at Ishasha sector for a game drive. This sector is known for the rare tree-climbing lions, several antelope species, buffaloes, and elephants. After the sighting, have lunch, and proceed to the misty Bwindi jungle, where you will arrive in the evening for check-in, refreshment, dinner, and a nap.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking and Batwa cultural tours

At 6 am, you will have breakfast served, and then with a packed lunch, go to the park headquarters for a pre-trekking gorilla briefing by the ranger guides. The discussions cover the trekking dos and don’ts, how to walk in the forest, and assign a gorilla family. Mountain gorillas live in families, led by giant silverbacks, whose duty is to offer protection and lead the path to new territories. The gorilla trekking session takes approximately 1-8 hours, first visiting the place they were last spotted and then through the plants and the bush to where they are.

When you locate them, you have an hour of watching them play, feed, and engage. Take photos and ask the guides all the necessary questions. Afterward, you will have a lunch break, and thereafter a Batwa cultural tour in the evening with the Batwa pygmies, who will entertain you through community walks, songs, and dances. The Batwa pygmies are former hunters and gatherers in the forest. End this day with dinner and a sweet slumber at the lodge.

Day 6: Fly from Kihihi Airstrip to Entebbe International Airport. Onward flight to Masai Mara National Reserve

At sunrise, enjoy your breakfast meal at the lodge, and thereafter hit the road to Kihihi Airstrip for a flight to Entebbe International Airport. From there, you will proceed with the journey to the Masai Mara National Reserve. Arrive at the park and meet our company representative, who will brief you on what will transpire in Kenya. Have a meal and spend the evening relaxed, awaiting a nap at the lodge.

Day 7: A full-day game drive in Masai Mara (chances of seeing the Migration depending on the month)

Spend your full day in the wilderness looking out for the early risers, night hunters, the birds, plants, and the Mara River, a spectacular sighting of the year. The annual wildebeest migration is the largest animal movement in the world, with over two million wildebeests, hundreds of zebras, and gazelles crossing the river for freshwater and grass.

Other animals you hope to see on the day include the hippos, crocodiles, leopards, lions, warthogs, wild dogs, buffaloes, African elephants, and lots more. You will have a bush breakfast and picnic lunch. Return to the lodge at sunset for dinner and sweet slumber.

Day 8: Optional hot air balloon safari and game drive

After breakfast, visit the wilderness for 3-4 hours, with hopes of sighting the animals, birds, reptiles, and places you could have missed on the previous drive. You can opt to do it a different and special way, on a hot air balloon. Above the ground, you will spend an hour on an aerial view, keen on catching sight of a hunt, leopards, lions, a wilderness birth, hyenas on the remaining caucus, and more.

Land for a wilderness Champagne toast, and variety to eat, before returning to the lodge for relaxation. The second option of a game drive offers a variety of flora and fauna in the wild. At sunset, get to bed after dinner.

Day 9: Transfer to Nairobi on road (or flight)

Start your day with a mouthwatering breakfast meal at the lodge, followed by a road trip to the airport in Nairobi city. En route, you will have a stopover at the magnificent Great Rift Valley for photography and some refreshments. Lunch follows, and a travel safe wish from the driver guide at the agreed drop-off point.
