Overviews explaining movements and what to do

The aforementioned itineraries focus on clear movements and practical daily activities that elevate the overall experience. This ensures that you are better prepared for your gorilla trek for the itinerary you are working with.

The 3-days Mgahinga gorilla trek

For the 3-day Mgahinga Gorilla trekking package, you must be prepared for a quieter adventure in the forest. You start with pick-up either in Kampala/Entebbe and transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. This is a 9-10 hours of driving to southwest Uganda. Arrive at your lodge near the park’s volcanic slopes and have an overnight. on the second day, head to the park headquarters at Ntebeko to attend briefing by the park rangers. Learn the safety rules and etiquette that you must follow religiously. Follow ranger guides in the forest to search for Nyakagezi, the habituated gorilla family.

Finding this gorilla group brings joy, yet observation takes an hour. But at least you will see how they feed, groom, play, eat and others. Afterwards return to the headquarters for debriefing. Your gorilla trek should last for 2-6 hours depending on the movements of the gorillas and your hiking speed. Return to your lodge where you may relax. Alternatively, you can visit the local communities or simply do a short nature walk. On the third day you will return to Kampala City or Entebbe to end your 3-days gorilla trekking tour.

The 3-day Bwindi Gorilla Trekking itinerary

This is by-far the most popular choice we offer first-time travelers in Uganda on a gorilla trekking tour. Start from Kampala/Entebbe like the previous one and head to Bwindi National Park on a 9-10-hour drive. Arrive at your lodge located near any of the 4 sectors of Bwindi, Rushaga, Buhoma, Nkuringo and Ruhija. Settle and rest for the night. The next day is when you do your gorilla trek in the jungle. At the park headquarters arrive before 8am to attend briefing and group assignment by the park rangers. They will proceed to lead you into the gorilla trails for the gorilla trek.

Bwindi’s gorilla trails range from gentle to steeper and muddier in some sections. This makes the gorilla treks last for 2 to even 8 hours. But, this is fun, and the reward is also an hour with the mountain gorillas. An afternoon Batwa cultural visit is on the table for you to interact with the former dwellers of the forest. You will laugh dance, listen to stories and understand their way of life. On the last day you will return to Kampala or Entebbe to end the 3-day gorilla trekking tour in Bwindi National Park.

The 6-day Bwindi and Mgahinga gorilla trek

We offer this for first-time travelers who want deeper immersion without rushing through the Uganda safari. This itinerary combines Bwindi and Mgahinga gorilla treks in 6 days, from Kampala/Entebbe. You are transferred to one of the parks, usually Bwindi. Like in the previous itineraries, the entire first day is for a scenic drive. Day 2 is dedicated to gorilla trekking in Bwindi National Park and transfer to Mgahinga. This will take 2-3 hours of scenic views before you arrive at your lodge near Mgahinga park headquarters.

On the third day, do a gorilla trek in Mgahinga and visit the Batwa community near the forest. An alternative activity is the calm nature walk. On day 4 a complimentary golden monkey tracking tour can be done. You might as well choose to relax at the nearby lakes like Mutanda or Bunyonyi. There are lots of advantages you will notice about the extended timeframe of this itinerary. Most importantly, it allows recovery between strenuous hikes and multiple wildlife perspectives. That is why we believe it is ideal for first-time travelers in Uganda.

The 2-day Bwindi gorilla trekking from Kigali

First-time travelers who are time-pressed will find this perfect. This starts with early morning pickup in Kigali. Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park on a 4-5-hour drive across the Uganda-Rwanda border. Arrive at your lodge in southern Bwindi and rest, or do a community walk. Day 2 is for gorilla trekking and return to Kigali to end the trip. This trip will minimize travel hours while still delivering the full classic experience. It is also perfect for the scenic views of Rwanda’s hills and the Virunga scenery.
