The rules and regulations can be new, especially to new trekkers hence they should arrive early at the park to attend the briefing that is held by experienced game rangers before heading to the forest.

  • The activity is permitted to tourists who are 15 years and above. The age limit is very crucial because usually children have childhood diseases and sometimes they tend to fear a lot hence they can shout due to fear and the gorillas charge.
  • Tourists should endeavor to wash their hands with soap before they enter the jungle, this kills any germs or diseases that might transfer to the amazing forest primates.
  • Gorillas are peaceful and quiet creatures who love noise-free environments therefore it is recommended that tourists honor it by ensuring they keep their voices low while trekking them.
  • The saying garbage in garbage out is 100% important so tourists should keep all their rubbish like polythene in their bags and trash it out of the perimeters of the forest.
  • Mountain gorillas remain shy creatures even after years of habituation. That is why tourists visit a gorilla family in groups of 8 individuals so that they don’t make the gorillas uncomfortable.
  • Tourists shouldn’t forget to stand at least 7 meters away from the gorillas on sighting them. It should be noted that the further one stands while viewing them, the more relaxed they can be and hence the chances of watching them live in their natural habitat is achieved.
  • Tourists should not eat, drink or smoke in the park especially when close to the apes. This is done to minimize the risk of contracting diseases from the leftovers or small particles that might have dropped off from the tourists’ eats.
  • Tourists should be calm and strong enough not to run in scenarios where the gorillas charge at them because this only increases the chances of being attacked by the primates.
  • Keeping memories of the wondrous hours spent observing the gorillas is highly encouraged but tourists should ensure that their gadgets don’t give off flashlights while taking the pictures.
  • Tourists are only permitted one hour of observing the mountain gorillas as they feed, play and spend their time.
  • Strictly tourists with contagious diseases are not allowed to trek the critically endangered species because their numbers are still in danger hence it is vital to halt anything that can reduce their numbers further.
  • In case tourists catch a cough or flu the night before trekking, they should be kind enough to alert the regulating body so that they miss trekking that day and see if they can reschedule for them on a different day or refund their money.
  • Tourists in need of easing themselves should ensure to dig a 30cm deep hole and cover it properly with soil to minimize the chances of the largest living apes contracting diseases.
  • Respect the mountain gorillas and their way of life. Tourists should not touch the creatures, or play with them as it is not something they would rather do since they are shy creatures.
