Kazuma Hill Lookout is a popular viewpoint situated in the heart of Lake Mburo National Park in Mbarara district, western Uganda. Lake Mburo National Park is one of the most popular safari destinations in the country and one of the most visited national parks yet the smallest savannah park in Uganda, covering only 260 square kilometers.
What to see while at Kazuma Hill Lookout?
The beautiful hill of Kazuma is quite steep and quite challenging to hike but once one reaches the top, the magnificent hill offers the most breathtaking and clear views of the eight nearby lakes and the bigger part of Lake Mburo National Park. Its closeness to Lake Kazuma, Ruroko Kopje and one tree hill makes it stand out and an easily accessed key feature in the park.
While at Kazuma Hill, visitors can be able to see several wildlife species in Lake Mburo National Park including herds of buffaloes, African elephants, bushbucks, duikers, zebras, Topis, and impalas, to mention but a few.
One will also have the most spectacular views of Lake Mburo National Park. There are 8 lakes within and 3 outside Lake Mburo National Park that can be sighted while on Kazuma Hill overlooking the park.
Kazuma Hill lookout offers the best game viewings of Lake Mburo National Park, several tourism activities can be done while at Kazuma Hill including nature walks, bird watching and camping. After encountering the beauty of the Rubanga forest, visitors will be amused by the stunning canopies with a blend of sights and sounds of birds. Due to its strategic location in the southern part of Lake Mburo National Park, the hill also offers the most spectacular view of the lakes bordering the park.
LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK.
Lake Mburo National Park also known as “Whispers of the Wild” is the smallest savannah park in Uganda situated in Kiruhura, Isingiro and Mbarara districts in the western part of Uganda. It is the nearest national park to the country’s Kampala City making its access walk over especially for visitors on time.
Its strategic location along the Kampala-Masaka highway makes it a must-visit spot as it connects to other popular destinations in the country including Queen Elizabeth National Park, the second oldest and largest national park in the country situated in the western part of Uganda, Kasese District.
Queen Elizabeth is one of the most visited national parks in Uganda and being in the western region makes it a gateway for travelers to spend some time in Lake Mburo and then embark on their long journey to Queen Elizabeth NP in Kasese, Bwindi and Mgahinga National Parks in Kisoro district.
It is about 4 hours of road drive from the capital city of Kampala to this tourism destination. The eight lakes within the park supply water to Lake Mburo National Park and act as home for several aquatic species including hippos, crocodiles and more.
There are about 70 different mammal species sheltered in Lake Mburo National Park and they include rare eland, giraffes, buffaloes, elephants, hippos, crocodiles, Topis, water bucks, duikers, leopards, spotted hyenas, Oribi, zebras, to mention but a few. A variety of water bird species can also be sighted as the park is home to about 350 different bird species.
Lake Mburo National Park is the best spot for watching acacia-associated birds in Uganda including, African fish eagles, carruthers, yellow warblers, black eagles, kingfishers, great snipe, yellow-breasted apalis, brown parrot southern ground hornbill, mention but a few. There are no lions in Lake Mburo National Park making the spot very safe, especially for walking safaris.
Lake Mburo National Park also provides a unique opportunity for night game drives where visitors can easily see most of the animals that either prefer night or day.
