3 days Mgahinga Flying Gorilla safari

Overview

Spend a great time [3 days] on the Mgahinga gorilla safari where you encounter beautiful mountain gorillas during gorilla trekking. This experience allows you to spend an hour in the presence of these beautiful creatures though the overall experience can last 5 to 8 hours.

This tour will have the option of taking a Batwa cultural trail that is meant to teach you about the roots of Batwa pygmies, considered the people of the forest. The tour involves flying such as from Entebbe to Kisoro and back.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Fly to Kisoro airstrip from Entebbe

The driver guide will pick you up from any agreed point and then transfer to Entebbe airport where your scheduled flight will take you to Kisoro airstrip in Kisoro town.

Upon landing, drive to your lodge which is close to Mgahinga National Park – the home of rare primates (mountain gorillas and golden monkeys) hence named a place “where gold meets silver”. Check in and relax as you enjoy amazing views of the volcanoes.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and optional Batwa cultural tour

Wake up and head to the park offices for briefing after breakfast. Meet and greet the park guides who will take you through a briefing, cross-checking the gorilla permits, and travel documents. The rules include not feeding the gorillas, always keeping a distance from the gorilla family, if you have infectious diseases like flu or cough then, you are not allowed to trek and more.

Begin the search and this will include spotting other attractions like varvet monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, olive baboons, and many beautiful birds as most of them will be singing/making calls and more. Upon meeting a gorilla family, spend an hour in their presence watching as you learn their behaviours and recording memories. After, head back to the starting point to enjoy packed lunch.

Have an optional experience of the Batwa cultural tour where the Twa/Mutwa guide will take you to the village to learn about how the Batwa people used to live and depend on the forest. Visit the caves, learn about different herbal medicines, foods (roots, leaves and fruits) and more. Return to the lodge for dinner.

Day3. Drive to Kisoro airstrip and fly to Entebbe airport. End of safari.

Wake up at leisure for breakfast at your lodge and then transfer to Kisoro airstrip where you board a scheduled flight to Entebbe. The flight can take about 2 hours or less depending on routing. Our driver guide will be ready at the airport to take you to the agreed drop-off point. This will mark the end of this 3 days Mgahinga Flying Gorilla safari.

We went on a two-week trip with my family, organised by Coleb from Standard Safaris.I had my concerns about organised trips, but this one didn’t justify any of those. Everything went very smoothly, even when some problems arose with one of the cars it got fixed by next morning, the accomodations were clean and comfortable, the programs were exciting and well-balanced - everything was done to a truly high standard.If you plan to visit Uganda and are looking for a guide, I warmly recommend Coleb and his team. In case you have a choice of drivers, go for Godwin, his presence made this trip even more enjoyable - cheerful, helpful, good sense of humour, generally a great person. Just look for the guy with a big smile and big heart:)

We are all extremely grateful Standard Safaris for an incredible East Africa experience. I recently booked a custom trip for group of 8 people, including an 8-year-old boy, from Kampala through Queen Elizabeth National Park and on to Rwanda and Burundi. Very organized travel operator who chose awesome guide to make our trip wonderful.We booked a nine days trip with Standard Safaris and all was perfect from start to finish. Coleb was very prompt at replying and easy to liaise with ahead of the trip. The company has very courteous tour guides with wide knowledge of fauna and frola in the whole of East Africa.The choice of safari Lodges is good with first class treatment.Game drive security is assured.Almost The whole of September I was traversing through DRC, Uganda,and Rwanda on a gorilla tour and wildlife expedition.Everything was arranged and booked perfectly by Standard Safaris.The owner, Coleb was always helpful whenever we needed to ask questions about this gorilla safari in Uganda and beyond.It was a complex expedition but Standard safaris and Coleb made it look amazingly easy.I’ll recommend Standard safaris 200%, for all gorilla safaris in Uganda, Rwanda and wildlife tours in east africa.

This is so far the best gorilla trekking company in Uganda, and africa, by far.
