About Jinja City

This urban development scheme was meant to create neighbourhood units for the elite.
This led to a much-needed development of Jinja as an urban city and a hotspot for the British elite. With more developments like the construction of the East African Railway transformed the city transformed into a powerhouse for trade. However, this came at the expense of the locals as the jobs on the operation of the railway were reserved for the British and the Asians. Fast forward to the post-colonial era, Jinja suffered a great setback, especially during the President Idi Amin regime. Additionally, in 1979, during the fall of President Idi Amin, he escaped to Jinja and tried to regroup. However, the Ugandan army, in a coalition with the Tanzanian forces, attacked Jinja, and as a result, most businesses were looted, and some buildings were destroyed in the crossfire. The Tanzanian forces used this city to transport their looted goods from the country to Tanzania.
