The seven days’ safari gives you a rewarding primate experience by exploring the Volcanoes National park in North Rwanda for Mountain gorilla tracking and then the south Rwanda Nyungwe Forest for Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk.
You will have a lowland gorilla adventure in the Democratic Republic of Congo which takes you to the most popular and incredible Kahuzi-Biega National Park in the Congo’s Bukavu province where you will have a glimpse at the lowland gorillas and explore their behavior in depth.

Day 1- Transfer to Volcanoes national park.
Our driver guide will meet you at your hotel after you have had your breakfast. You will do a short city tour to the genocide memorial, president’s palace and markets, after which you will later drive from Kigali to Volcanoes National park where you will spend an overnight.
Day 2- Volcanoes national park: Gorilla tracking.
Today after breakfast, you drive to the park for briefing and expectant to meet the mountain gorillas in the dense jungles of the Virunga ranges. Embark on the trek through the lush habitat of these apes. The trek can last from two to six hours depending on where the gorillas nested the previous night – you need to be relatively fit to enjoy this experience.
After that, you will back to your lodge for lunch then continue to Iby’iwachu culture village for experiencing Rwandan dance. After that experience, drive to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3- Transfer to Nyungwe national park
After breakfast at your lodge, we leave Nyungwe for Volcanoes national park right after breakfast. We will drive will partly along the Congo – Nile trail with views of Lake Kivu and its Islands on our way, arriving at Gisenyi where we visit the fishing village, visit DRC-Rwanda border (Gisenyi town) and relax at the lakeside till afternoon.
This will offer the much-needed rest before you embark on the journey to Volcano National Park. Arrive at volcanoes national park in the evening and check in at your lodge.
Day 4- Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk
After an early breakfast, we drive to the park headquarters for Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe forest. The forest is rich in botanical diversity and home to 13 species of primates including Chimpanzees, Lhotse’s monkeys, and Colobus monkeys. You will receive a briefing from your ranger guide and thereafter start your trek into the deep forest for about 3-6 hours in the search for these apes.
Later return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon you will take on the canopy walk experiencing the forest differently.
Day 5- Transfer to Kahuzi-Biega National park- DRC.
Early in the morning after your breakfast at your lodge, you will be picked by your driver guide ready to set off to Cyangugu south of Rwanda. You will cross to Democratic Republic of Congo and drive from the Cyangugu border to Kahuzi-Biega and check in at your lodge.
Day 6- Lowland Gorilla tracking.
Today after breakfast, you will set off lowland gorilla trekking in Kahuzi-Biega National Park – Congo. This primate adventure is dramatic and offers opportunity for visitors to learn the behavior of the lowland gorillas in depth and their difference compared to the mountain gorillas. You will spend approximately one to four hours depending on where these primates are located and your hiking speed and only one hour is given to you to strike your imaginations with these unique creatures in the wild. After tracking you will have lunch and in the afternoon you will embark on a nature walk around the park as you explore the Tshibati waterfall which offers the most stunning scrivener.
