The 20 days’ safari will explore the western, South western and the Adventure city of Jinja in the East. From the Zebra filled plains of Lake Mburo to the volcanic mountains of Virunga and right down to the Batwa Cultural Experience, this package is the classic tour Uganda’s epic adventure.

Take on Jinja excursion via Mabira rainforest with a chance to take an en route visit to the spectacular Ssezibwa falls and then a boat trip to the source of the Nile. Walk amongst a thriving rhino population at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and track the spectacular mountain gorillas while listening to the calls of colorful bird species.

Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1- Arrival and transfer to your hotel.

Upon arrival at Entebbe international airport, you will be met by your driver guide from where you will transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay

Day 2- Drive from Kampala to Lake Mburo National Park.

After an early morning breakfast at your hotel, we leave Kampala for Lake Mburo National Park. We shall have a stop at the Equator for an equator experiment to experience a tropical balance, have a look at the traditional drums and crafts being made, and thereafter proceed to Lake Mburo National Park, the park is with big herds of zebra, impala, eland and other wildlife. Bird viewing opportunities are excellent – for birders, this is one of the best places to find African fin foot, papyrus bush shrike.

Day 3- Game drive and boat cruise in Lake Mburo National Park.

Have your morning breakfast, and start a game drive in search of animals that call the park home like zebras, impalas, topis, buffalos, elands. Have an excellent bird check list from which about 313 bird species are recorded including the rare shoebill stork, White-winged Warbler, Crested Francolin among others.

After the game drive, return to the lodge for lunch before heading out for a boat ride. The ride gives you the chance to view aquatic animals like Crocodiles, Hippos and water birds, i.e. the Fish Eagles, Pelicans, Black crake, Heron, Cormorant, and the rare shoebill stork. Return to your lodge for a relaxed evening, dinner and overnight.

Day 4- Transfer from Lake Mburo to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

Today we head out for Mgahinga National park after your breakfast, you can opt to have a guided nature walk in the park or a bicycle tour before leaving the park in order to get close to wildlife, Mgahinga National park is famous for its 3 distinct volcanoes that are usually hiked as well as the rare mountain gorillas and golden monkeys.

Have a picnic lunch in the rolling hills of south western Uganda before proceeding to Kisoro town and you can choose to relax for the rest of the day or better still you can visit Lake Mutanda or the Batwa if time allows.

Day 5- Volcano climbing.

After a morning breakfast, move to the park headquarters for briefing. At the point you will decide which volcano to summit. Each of the three has a unique feature after achieving to Summit it; –

Sabinyo which is the most challenging one, give you a chance to be in 3 countries at once i.e. Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, and can only be hiked via the Ugandan Side. Mt. Muhabura which is the tallest has a crater lake on top and Mt. Gahinga has a swamp. The journey takes about eight hours’ round trip to cover stretch depending on your physical strength and speed. You are advised to carry with you plenty of drinking water as well as warm clothing and rain gear as it can rain any time of the day during the hike.

Day 6- Visit Lake Bunyonyi.

After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale district and the lake is the deepest in Uganda and second deepest in Africa. Relax at the lake after your hike. A boat cruise will take you to some of the 29 islands located on lake Bunyonyi each with its different history. You may also choose to hike hills surrounding Lake Bunyonyi or do some birding.

Day 7- Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable national park.

After breakfast, you will drive from lake Bunyonyi through the forest to the northern sector of Bwindi famously known as the Buhoma sector. Birdlife and primate life in this forest is quite superb and Buhoma is the key sector for Bwindi Impenetrable national park and there is an incredible variety of flora.

Bwindi is the Bird watchers haven and It holds 348 species of birds and supports 23 of 26 Albertine Rift Endemics that occur in Uganda, of which you might have a chance to encounter some as well as other primate species. You will get to the lodge in time for lunch.

Day 8- Gorilla tracking

After your breakfast, you will be transferred to the gorilla tracking information office for a briefing by the park warden and rangers at 8am. After briefing, the rangers will then lead you into the forest to track Mountain gorillas. The thrill of spending an hour observing the gorillas as they interact with each other is a pleasing and unforgettable one.

You will carry with you a packed lunch for, the time spent tracking the gorillas would not be obvious to you but varies from 2 to 8 hours. Return to the lodge from the hikes and tracking relax as you wait for dinner.

Day 9- Batwa Cultural Trail.

Today you will engage in meeting one of the oldest and indigenous tribe. This is one of the most exciting activities in this park as it involves visiting the Batwa pygmies, people who were lived in Bwindi impenetrable forest.

They were known as “The Keepers of the Forest” and survived by hunting, gathering plants and fruits in the forest. These people lived in harmony with the forest and its creatures, including the mountain gorillas. They constructed huts out of leaves and branches for shelter, and like gorillas, they moved frequently in search for fresh supplies of food. You will be taken through the lifestyle of these people as well as opportunities for storytelling.

Day 10- Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After an early breakfast, we shall transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The park boasts the highest bio-diversity ratings with a variety of ecosystems that include; lakes, forest, savannah grassland as well as wetlands. Drive through the Ishasha sector famous for its tree climbing lions, and do a game drive and if on a lucky day, one can spot these elusive tree climbing lions, and thereafter proceed to the northern part of the park in time for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 11- Explore Queen Elizabeth National Park: game drive and boat trip on the Kazinga Channel.

After an early morning breakfast, you will head for a game drive in the Kasenyi plains and look out for animals like: lions, cape buffalos, elephants, warthogs, waterbucks, spotted hyenas, Mangoose, kobs and, if you are lucky, the leopard is often spotted.

Over 600 bird species have been recorded in the park and most notably along the Kazinga channel thus making if a bird haven. After the drive return for lunch treat, relax and prepare for an exciting afternoon as you cruise on the Kazinga Channel.

After lunch you will transfer to enjoy a unique two hours’ boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. The cruise gives you a great opportunity for photography, relaxed animal viewing and bird watching at a close range.

Day 12- Drive from Queen Elizabeth national park to Kibale Forest National Park.

After your breakfast, you will transfer to Kibale forest national park. You will have a tour around Fort Portal town before checking in at your Lodge. The tour allows to visit the palace of the youngest king in the world (Tooro kingdom palace) and Karambi Tombs for a cultural and historical brief.

Lunch shall be served in Fort portal town before proceeding to visit the crater lakes (Top of the World) and then head to your lodge for a night and organize for an exciting Chimpanzee trek the following day.

Day 13- Chimpanzee tracking and Bigodi wetland walk.

After an early morning breakfast, you will be transferred to the information centre for a briefing by the park warden and ranger guides, after you will be led into the rain forest in search of chimpanzees. These primates are very mobile and viewing them is unpredictable but a forest walk is an enriching activity and takes about 3 to 5 hours.

The forest is also home to other primates including L’Hoest’s, grey cheeked Mangabeys, Red-colobus, Red-tailed, birds, and butterflies. You will get back at the lodge in time for lunch and in the afternoon, go for a Bigodi swamp walk for yet more primates and bird watching with an optional opportunity to meet and interact with the local communities living here.

Day 14- Transfer from Kibale Forest National Park to Murchison Falls National Park.

After an early morning breakfast, we will transfer to Murchison falls national park. Drive for about 8-9 hrs via the Albertine Escarpment of the Western Arm of the East African Rift Valley passing through verdant countryside traditional homesteads.

Depending on your preferred lodge as well as the time you get into the park, may be taken to visit the top of the falls before heading to check in your lodge.

Day 15- Murchison Falls National Park (Morning game drive and afternoon boat trip/Hike)

After an early morning warm up tea/coffee, you will transfer for a game drive to the northern bank in search of animals like lions, leopards, giraffes, oribis, elephants, Jackson’s hartebeests, Uganda kobs, buffaloes among other animal and bird species. You will then return to the lodge in time for lunch and relax preparing for yet an exciting activity in the afternoon.

After lunch, transfer for a 3 hours’ boat ride on the Nile River to the bottom of falls where you will have the opportunity to view animals like; crocodiles, hippos, in the water and some on the river banks, while; buffaloes, waterbucks, and elephants are often seen on the river bank grazing and drinking water.

You can have an option to hike to top of the falls. The guide will meet you at the top and return you to the lodge for a relaxed evening, dinner and overnight.

Day 16- Boat Trip to the Delta and Evening game drive.

Have a morning breakfast, you will head for a 4 to 5 hours’ boat trip to the Delta area famed for its high populations of game and sightings for the Shoebill. You have views of Elephants, Buffaloes, Bushbucks, Lions, and a variety of bird species by the banks of the Nile river.

You may decide to relax at the poolside at your lodge or just rest in your room for the afternoon. In the evening head out for an evening game drive and a sundowner

Day 17- Transfer from Murchison falls to Kampala and Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary tour enroute.

After breakfast, we shall drive back to the capital city. We shall have a stopover at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary where you will track Rhinos. The experience walking through the reserve will give you a glimpse of some of Africa’s wilderness. This will be after a short briefing from your ranger guide that you will start your trek to the Rhinos.

Depending on location of Rhinos, you might need to drive a distance before exiting and starting the trek. Have lunch at the sanctuary and continue to Kampala.

Day 18- Jinja tour.

After your breakfast, you will transfer for a Jinja town city tour to include a visit to the Source of the Nile. We shall visit Mabira forest with a chance to take an en route visit to the spectacular Ssezibwa falls, a spiritual and cultural centre where many natives are believed to flock for blessings, wealth, and fortunes.

The falls are endowed with sharp edged rocks, magnificent sound of soothing waters flowing down the steep ridged stones, medicinal trees and a sizable number of bird species recorded. After we continue to Jinja town where we shall have lunch and in the afternoon take a boat trip to the source of the Nile where it starts its 3 months Journey before pouring into the Mediterranean Sea. After we shall head back to Kampala.

Day 19- Kampala City tour.

After your breakfast, you will have a chance to explore Kampala’s stand out attractions to include the Old Kampala Mosque, Cathedrals, locals markets, Namugongo Martyrs shrine as well as the museum.

You will visit the East African craft village for crafts and souvenirs. After transfer back to your lodge for relaxation or you can opt for night life.

Day 20- Transfer to the Airport.

Depending on your flight time, you will be transferred to Entebbe airport for your flight back home.
