4 Days Bwindi Gorillas & Ngamba Chimp Trekking

Overview.

The 4 days’ trip will give you a chance take a cruise out on Lake Victoria to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary and have a chance to view chimpanzees and involve in feeding them. You will also be treated to sights of monitor lizards, birds, and photographic opportunities.

From here the next day you will travel to Bwindi Impenetrable national park for an eye to eye encounter with the mountain gorillas and local communities.

Highlights.

Detailed Safari:

Day 1- Visit the Ngamba Island chimpanzee sanctuary.

Wake up in the morning, have breakfast and our drive guide will get you to the pier where you will get a Upon arrival at the sanctuary, you will be directed to the visitor’s center where you will be introduced to the project, its history, the residents and their plight.

On each of the two types of day visits (half day and full day), you will receive a personal orientation by a chimpanzee caregiver and view a feeding of the chimpanzees (full day visitors will view 2 feedings) from the visitors’ raised platform area along the edge of the sanctuary fence. You will do a full day, have lunch at the island and later in the evening return to your hotel or lodge.

Day 2- Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National park.

After breakfast, our tour guide will transfer you by road to Bwindi. Along the way you will have a stop at the equator for the equator experiment and a photo moment. Continue to Mbarara and have lunch at Igongo cultural centre driving through the land of the Ankole long-horned cattle. Then proceed to Bwindi in southwestern Uganda arriving in the evening.

Day 3- Gorilla tracking and community visits.

Wake up very early in the morning for your breakfast and pack your lunch. Then drive to the park headquarters, which are a few minutes from your lodge for a briefing by the park ranger on how you need to conduct yourself before the gorillas and as you hike through the park.

At 8.30am begin hiking along well-established trails in the forest with the guidance of trackers and ranger guides. Gorilla tracking is a strenuous exercise but a rewarding experience after encountering the gorillas. The time to encounter these apes is an hour but the whole activity takes several hours (2-8) depending on their movement in the forest.

In the evening, you are rewarded with a short cultural tour to explore the homesteads of Batwa people. These will mesmerize you with their vibrant traditional dances and songs and inspire you with their history.

Day 4- Return to Kampala/Departure.

After your breakfast transfer back to Kampala or to the airport for your scheduled flight back home or our driver guide will drop you at your accommodation facility. Lunch will be served along the way, either at Mbarara, s Hotel Triangle or Igongo country Hotel.
