5 Days Mountain Elgon Hiking Safari

5 days Mountain Elgon hiking safari is an exciting hiking safari that every traveller should never miss. You will hike mountain Elgon up to Wagagai peak and this will be covered in 4 days and the 5th day shall be for departing. Mountain Elgon is 4,321 meters above sea level and this is the largest caldera still in Africa.

 Mountain Elgon has so many attractions for example; bamboo forests, and crater lakes, expect to see animals like bushbucks, forest elephants, and buffaloes. On this safari, you will have to visit the source of the Nile and visit Ssezibwa Falls in Mabira among other fun.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Mbale

On this first day of the 5-day Mt. Elgon hiking safari, you will be met by our driver representative who will brief you about this tremendous experience and then be transferred to Mbale where you will have an overnight closer to Elgon. 

You will cruise through the thick Mabira forest, take a guided walk to encounter some species in the forest for example monkeys, and birds, visit Ssezibwa waterfalls, and embark on the journey to Mbale. 

While you are in Jinja, you will visit the source of the Nile, do paddling enjoy lunch and then proceed to Mbale where you will spend overnight. 

Day 2: Mbale to Piswa camp

Arise in the morning on a delicious breakfast be transferred to Pakwata which is the briefing point and the starting point as well. This trail will enable you to navigate through heath and moorland, you will enjoy the scenery and the climate will start changing. 

Arriving at Piswa camp in the afternoon, relax, lunch and dinner will be at Piswa Hut campsite.

Day 3: Ascend to Hunter’s Cave Camp 

You will wake up in the early morning and face the long day hike. You will be hiking through the beautiful giant lobelia, you will have to visit the hot springs and Saum George, lunch will be served on the way thereafter you will return to the rim of the caldera where you will have your dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Ascend to Wagagai and descend to Mude cave camp

You will wake up very early in the morning, grab a cup of tea/coffee and head to the Wagagai the highest peak which is 4,321 meters above sea level. At this summit, you will relax, take pictures, and thereafter you will descend to Mude cave camp where you will relax, have dinner and enjoy your last night in the jungle.

Day 5: Mude cave camp and Kampala

Arise in the morning, enjoy breakfast descend to Budadiri using the Sasa trail, and then proceed to Mbale where you will have lunch and embark on the journey to Kampala. The driver will either drop you at the Airport or the hotel depending on your time of flight.
